One of this year’s HealthKwest sponsors is Red Diamond Tea. One large source of calories for many individuals is in beverage choice. Sodas and juices, while tasty, are frequently high in calories. An alternative to these high calorie beverages is tea. Obviously, sweet tea can have just as many calories as a soda depending how much sugar goes into it (down in Memphis, usually quite a bit). Unsweet iced tea or a cup of hot tea can be a refreshing beverage.

Tea has long been purported to have health benefits. Studies have shown that tea contains significant quanties of flavanoids (remember our conversation about the benefits of red wine?) as well as other antioxidants. Tea also contains caffeine and can serve as pick me up giving some heightened alertness.
